The Curtilage is a small development of very upscale homes ($750,000 -$2,000,000) that was built on a separate tract of land several years after the last homes were completed in Shadeland East. This development is entered via Galaxie Drive, but technically is not considered to be part of Shadeland East.

There are no Census population counts specific to the entire Shadeland East area. However the 2000 US Census counted 1371 residents in census tract 23.1 block group 3 living in 562 occupied (+ 22 vacant) residences. This would give an average household size of 2.44 persons per household not counting the vacant homes or 2.34 persons per household counting the vacant homes. Applying these numbers to the 245 homes in Shadeland East would give 2000 population of 573 to 598 people living in Shadeland East.

The US Census also does not report Age of Householder data below the Census block group level. The Census block group level includes 562 homes, 245 of which are in Shadeland East. If we apply the age of householder For Block 3007, Block Group 3, Census Tract 23.01 we get the following estimates of the age of householder for those living in Shadeland East.

The age distribution consists primarily of those over 45 (80+ %) with Just over 50 % being over 55, slightly over 30 percent over 65, and approximately another 15 % over 75.

We can also obtain an estimate of the household sizes for those living in Shadeland East based on the same approach. The data for the block group may overestimate the number of 1-person households especially for the rental property category, as a few apartments contained in the block group which are not part of Shadeland East. Primarily these are rental properties located on the south side of Cooper Drive at the very edge of the block group. Nonetheless, the majority of households in Shadeland East contain only one or two persons, with nearly half (47.1%) being 2-person households. There are very few children in Shadeland East.
